Indiana Association of School Business Officials

About IASBO…

The Indiana Association of School Business Officials is a professional organization which strives for the promotion and union of those individuals involved in school business affairs such as finance, accounting, purchasing, maintenance and operations, human resources, facilities and grounds, food service, technology, and transportation.

IASBO currently has nearly 900 members representing over 90 percent of Indiana’s public school corporations.  With offices in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana ASBO shares space with the Indiana School Boards Association and the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents.

What does IASBO offer its members?

Professional Development Opportunities
Indiana ASBO sponsors a multitude of full- and half-day professional development seminars each school year on pertinent business management topics.  These workshops cover the current “hot topics” in areas such as finance, accounting, purchasing, maintenance and operations, human resources, facilities and grounds, food service, technology, and transportation.

Certification Program
Created in 2005, the IASBO Certification Program is designed to teach the professional skills necessary in order for its membership to be able to meet the responsibilities of their jobs.  The curriculum has been developed in order to provide core knowledge in five certification tracks:  Chief Business Officer, Assistant Chief Business Officer, Business Office Specialist, Facility Director, and Human Resource Specialist.  Certification is obtained upon completing a prescribed number of required and elective hours for each track.  Classes are offered throughout the year, enabling participants to complete their certification in as quickly as two years.

Indiana School Business Officials Leadership Academy
Indiana ASBO administers this leadership opportunity that is funded through legislation enacted by the Indiana General Assembly.  Up to 25 individuals are selected annually to participate in a series of eight 2-day sessions over a 2-year period.  This interactive program features national presenters that cover the topics of leadership, communication, climate and culture, and fiscal management.  This personal growth opportunity is designed for the more experienced practitioner in order to enhance his/her skills.

Regional Meetings
A series of meetings are scheduled in each of IASBO’s ten regions throughout the year, allowing for networking and interaction with fellow school business officials.

The IASBO Annual Meeting
Held each year in early May, this two-and-a-half-day conference attracts close to 400 school business officials and features a series of clinic sessions, outstanding speakers, and over 180 exhibitors displaying a wide range of products and services.

The Inter-Com
This association newsletter is available for every member nine times each year and addresses issues current in the field of school business management.  IASBO members are invited to contribute articles to The Inter-Com.

An Annual Membership Directory (for members only)
Indiana ASBO provides its members with a listing of names, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and email addresses of active members, business members, and exhibitors.  This directory is updated annually.

Stay-in-the-Know Email Updates
Denny Costerison, IASBO Executive Director, reports on the daily activities of the Indiana General Assembly during the legislative session and other IASBO events throughout the year.  These messages are sent directly to members’ email addresses on an as-needed basis.  If you are an IASBO member and wish to receive these messages, inform us by using the heading link above this section.
