House Education Committee
The committee met this morning to hear HB 1641, charter school matters.  Representative Bob Behning is the author of the bill.  The original bill had two major issues – (1) the purchasing of used school buildings by charter schools and (2) the ability of charter schools receiving a portion of referendum revenues if the school corporation where the charter school is located has a successful operation revenue.  An amendment was added to the bill that would delete all references to the referendum revenues issue.  Further, the amendment makes changes to the selling of  used school building(s) to charter schools that makes the process more equitable.  The amended bill passed 9-4.
