Governor Holcomb Signs HB 1005

Yesterday, Governor Eric Holcomb signed HB 1005, state superintendent of public instruction.  The bill abolishes the office of the state superintendent of public instruction.  Beginning on January 11, 2021, the governor will appoint the new secretary of education.  Therefore, Dr. Jennifer McCormick will be the last elected state superintendent of public instruction.

Speaker Bosma Announces That April 24 Will Be the Last Day of the 2019 General Assembly

Speaker of the House Brian Bosma yesterday announced that it is his goal to finish the work of the 2019 General Assembly on Wednesday, April 24.  By statute, the long session of the General Assembly must end by April 29.  With April 29 being a Monday, the speculation was that Friday, April 26 would be the last day.  With this announcement, Speaker Bosma has put pressure on the House members to get conference committee meetings completed as soon as possible.  No one would be disappointed if the General Assembly completed their work early.

State Budget Committee to Meet on April 17

The State Budget Committee will meet on April 17 in Room 431 of the State House to hear the April revenue forecast.  The April revenue forecast will be used to complete the work on HB 1001, state budget, when it is in conference committee.

JENNIFER MCCORMICK’S CONVERSATIONS REGARDING THE STATE OF EDUCATION

Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Superintendent of Public Instruction, will have two more conversations regarding the state of Indiana’s education system.  The meetings are scheduled as follows:
