The Indiana Association of School Business Officials is a professional organization which strives for the promotion and advancement of those individuals involved in school business affairs such as finance, accounting, purchasing, maintenance and operations, human resources, facilities and grounds, food nutrition, technology, and transportation.

IASBO currently has over 1300 members representing over 95 percent of Indiana’s public school corporations. With offices in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana ASBO is in constant contact with the State Legislature and State Agencies.

What does IASBO offer its members? 

Professional Development Opportunities

Indiana ASBO sponsors a multitude of full and half-day professional development seminars each school year on pertinent business management topics. These workshops cover the current “hot topics” in areas such as finance, accounting, purchasing, maintenance and operations, human resources, facilities and grounds, food nutrition, technology, and transportation. 

Certification Program

Created in 2005, the IASBO Certification Program is designed to teach the professional skills necessary for its membership to be able to meet the responsibilities of their jobs. The curriculum has been developed in order to provide core knowledge in five certification tracks: Chief Business Officer, Assistant Chief Business Officer, Business Office Specialist, Facilities Director, and Human Resources Specialist. Certification is obtained upon completing a prescribed number of required and elective hours for each track. Classes are offered throughout the year, enabling participants to complete their certification in as little as two years. 

Legislative Activities

The IASBO Executive Director is a full-time lobbyist during the legislative sessions of the Indiana General Assembly. IASBO is very active in legislative initiatives involving school business management issues, including the review of bill drafts and testifying before various legislative committees. IASBO also monitors legislative activities when the General Assembly is not in session attending interim study committees and working with legislators and their staffs. 

Facility Conference and Expo

Indiana ASBO sponsors a one-day conference on school facility and operation issues annually. The conference includes an exhibit hall. This conference is specifically for facility, building and grounds, maintenance and custodial school employees.

Regional Meetings

A series of meetings are scheduled in each of IASBO’s ten regions throughout the year, allowing for networking and interaction with fellow school business officials.

The IASBO Annual Meeting

Held each year in early May, this two-and-a-half-day conference attracts school business officials from across the state and features a series of preconference workshops, clinic sessions, outstanding speakers, and over 200 exhibitors displaying a wide range of products and services.

The InterCom

This Association newsletter is available for every member nine times each year and addresses issues current in the field of school business management. IASBO members are invited to contribute articles to The Inter-Com.
